ANTIUROLITHIATIC POTENTIAL OF MUSA BALBISIANA AND MUSA ACUMINATA

Abstract

The most common (about 80%) renal stones are calculi of calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystal. CaOx crystals, primary constituent of human renal stones, exist in the form of CaOx Monohaydrate (COM) and CaOx Dihydrate (COD).Antiurolithiatic Potential of Musa balbisiana and Musa acuminata has been described. The aqueous extract of Musa balbisiana and Musa acuminata flower have inhibitory effect on CaOx crystallization thus may be beneficial in the treatment of Urolithiasis but there is a need of detailed investigation in elaborated preclinical experimentations and clinical trials to establish the use of plant as antiurolithiatic agent.
