  1. Credit Card Usage Behaviour and Consumer Adoption in the Indian Banking Sector

The rapid integration of digital technologies into the banking industry has significantly transformed financial transactions and consumer payment behaviour across the globe. Among the most influential innovations in modern banking is the credit card, which combines electronic payment systems with short-term consumer credit facilities. Credit cards have become an important component of contemporary financial services by offering convenience, purchasing flexibility, and secure transaction mechanisms. In India, the expansion of the banking sector and technological advancement have accelerated the adoption of credit cards not only in metropolitan regions but also in semi-urban and smaller towns. This study examines the concept, operational structure, usage patterns, and market growth of credit cards in India. It also evaluates banking practices related to credit card issuance, customer protection, grievance redressal mechanisms, and fraud management. Furthermore, the paper reviews existing literature and analyses the socio-economic factors influencing credit card usage behaviour. The findings indicate that income level, spending behaviour, technological awareness, and banking accessibility significantly influence the adoption and usage intensity of credit cards among consumers.
