The rapid evolution of data analytics has emerged as a transformative force in engineering decision-making, fundamentally reshaping how complex problems are analyzed and solved across diverse industrial sectors. With the exponential growth of data generated from sensors, machines, simulations, and digital platforms, traditional decision making approaches—often reliant on limited datasets and human intuition—have become insufficient for addressing modern engineering challenges. In this context, the integration of advanced computational techniques, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data frameworks, and high-performance computing, enables engineers to process, analyze, and interpret vast and heterogeneous datasets with unprecedented speed and accuracy. These capabilities facilitate the extraction of meaningful patterns, correlations, and predictive insights that support more informed, reliable, and data driven decision-making processes. This article provides a comprehensive examination of recent advances in data analytics and their application in engineering contexts. It explores key methodologies such as predictive modeling, prescriptive analytics, and real-time data processing, which allow engineers not only to understand past system behaviors but also to forecast future outcomes and recommend optimal actions. The integration of real-time analytics with Internet of Things (IoT) devices has further enhanced system monitoring and control, enabling immediate responses to dynamic conditions and improving operational efficiency. Additionally, the emergence of digital twin technologies and advanced simulation models has provided engineers with virtual environments to test scenarios, evaluate system performance, and mitigate risks before implementation. The impact of these advancements is evident across multiple engineering domains. In manufacturing, data analytics supports smart production systems, predictive maintenance, and quality optimization. In civil and construction engineering, it enhances project planning, cost estimation, and safety management. In energy systems, analytics contributes to efficient resource utilization, load forecasting, and the integration of renewable energy sources. Similarly, in transportation engineering, it enables intelligent traffic management, route optimization, and infrastructure planning, leading to improved mobility and reduced congestion. Looking ahead, the future of data analytics in engineering decision-making is highly promising. Emerging trends such as edge computing, explainable artificial intelligence, and autonomous decision systems are expected to further enhance the efficiency, scalability, and transparency of analytical processes. Moreover, the increasing emphasis on sustainability and green engineering practices is driving the development of data-driven solutions aimed at optimizing resource consumption and minimizing environmental impact.
