Summary
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a rare but potentially life-threatening neurological disorder characterized by rapid-onset muscle weakness caused by immune-mediated damage to the peripheral nervous system. Often triggered by preceding infections, GBS represents a complex interaction between the immune system and neural tissues, leading to disrupted nerve signal transmission. This paper explores GBS as a model for understanding broader mechanisms of nerve dysfunction, highlighting its clinical manifestations, pathophysiological processes, diagnostic approaches, and current treatment strategies. By examining epidemiological trends and historical developments alongside recent scientific insights, the study emphasizes how GBS contributes to advancing knowledge of autoimmune neuropathies. Understanding this condition not only supports improved patient management but also provides valuable perspectives on immune-related neurological disorders and their long-term implications.
